Peter Bear graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Languages. While at Princeton, he became fascinated by the cultures of Asia and decided to do advanced work in Asian Languages and Literatures. After two years in Taiwan learning Mandarin and Classical Chinese,
Peter finished the coursework and dissertation for a Ph. D. degree at Yale University. He was an Assistant Professor for four years in the Department of Far Eastern Languages and Literatures at the Univeristy of Michigan, one of the premier Asian Studies programs in the country. While at Michigan he served as a student adviser, a reader of graduate admissions applications and a member of the Dean’s Student-Faculty Committee on Undergraduate Life.
Looking to extend his experience outside the university, Peter changed careers and spent twelve years in sales and account management for a recognized leader in tax management systems. In those roles, he was called on to make presentations to large companies and non-profit organizations, as well as to oversee the on-going delivery of services.
Peter returned to his original love of education by earning a Certificate in College Admissions Counseling and Career Planning from the University of California, Davis. As a college coach, he encourages students to see college as an exciting adventure into a new world of opportunities and lifelong learning. His specialties include working with student athletes and artists, as well as coaching writing.
